Lot Details
Guangdong, China, 20thC. Ng ka py bottle (), stoneware, China, c.1875. Pyriform shaped bottle of buff coloured clay. Flat, indented base, integral foot ring, globular body, short neck with a narrow mouth and an everted rim. Excluding the resting surface, covered in a thin brown glaze; the upper body and interior in thick brown lustre glaze. H.16cm. Dia.12cm Cat. Note/Ref.: The relatively sophisticated lustre glaze suggests a date of manufacture after Chinese activity on New Zealand goldfields. Ng ka py is still commercially available in similar stoneware bottles.
